The Proteas have a good balance in the setup to go on and win the World Cup. However, they have the infamous history of letting themselves down at vital stages. Nevertheless, they will be expected to have a good run in the campaign. A few surprise inclusions may be in place for South Africa. Here, we take a look at the list of two South Africa players who might surprisingly feature in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
1) Dewald Brevis
For the upcoming ODI series against Australia, Dewald Brevis has been given a go. He is likely to make his debut in this series. With this happening just before the ODI World Cup, he could be in the plans for the mega-event.
Brevis has played in India before in the IPL. He is a good player of spin and he himself can offer a few overs with the ball. While his preference is to play in the top order, in some leagues, Brevis has shown that he can excel in the lower middle order, as well. These factors make him a versatile player and for a cricketer who is seen as the future of the game, Brevis playing in the World Cup, despite having not made his debut so far, could be an event.
2) Sisanda Magala
Sisanda Magala is one of the South Africa players who might surprisingly feature in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Magala has done well mostly in the death overs. Currently, South Africa has a lot of solid pacers and there does not look to be an opportunity for Magala.
That said, these days, ODIs are played as two-and-half T20 games. The last few overs could define the outcome of a game. Death-bowling will be an important factor for the teams to win games consistently. In this regard, it may not be a surprise if Magala makes the cut to participate in the World Cup.
