In both the first and the second ODI, Suryakumar Yadav had to endure a golden duck. In both cases, he was caught LBW by Mitchell Starc. Having not opened his account yet, Suryakumar Yadav could be dropped for the final game. The last match will happen on March 22nd in Chennai. On that note, here, we take a look at two players who could replace Suryakumar Yadav for the 3rd ODI against Australia.
1) Ishan Kishan
In the first game, Ishan Kishan opened the batting. However, he could not leave an impact and Rohit Sharma was anyways returning back. Therefore, the wicketkeeper batter had to give up his position. That said, it was only recently that Ishan scored a double century in ODIs and he will be backed a bit more by the management.
It would not be a bad idea to have him at No.4 for the third ODI. Yes, India does have left-handed batters but they are all-rounders and it would be more suitable to have someone like Ishan in this position. If he does well, until Shreyas Iyer is back, Ishan could occupy this slot.
2) Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar is one of the players who could replace Suryakumar Yadav for the 3rd ODI against Australia. One of the outside options that India has is that of Washington Sundar.
After Shreyas Iyer was ruled out, India did not name a replacement. Therefore, there are no like-to-like options for SKY’s role and hence, India could have someone like Sundar in the line-up. It would be an interesting move to promote one of the all-rounders to the No.4 slot. Since the third ODI will happen in Chennai, a third spinner in the playing XI would be beneficial. Since Sundar knows the Chepauk pitch very well, he would be a good option to have in the playing XI.
