Team India has suffered a major blow as their star batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the World Test Championship Final. The batter complained of back pain during the recently concluded fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India in Ahmedabad. He immediately went for scans and was deemed unfit to take part in that game and was ruled out of the ODI series against Australia and IPL as well.

But the recent reports in the ESPNCricinfo have suggested that the Indian batter will undergo back surgery and miss IPL2023 and the World Test Championship Final and is set to be out of action for at least three months. His absence will leave a great void in the team as he has been their main batter in the middle order. 1. Suryakumar Yadav 

Suryakumar Yadav will be the prime candidate to replace Shreyas Iyer in the Indian squad for the WTC final. The batter has been part of the Indian setup and also made his debut in the Test series against Australia. Although he batted in just one innings and failed to score big, he looked good to the eyes. It’s fair to say that team has backed him in the Test setup as well and if he shows good form in the ongoing IPL, he would be on the plane to England for the Test Championship Final.

2. Sarfaraz Khan 

With Shreyas Iyer being injured, BCCI no doubt are likely to bring Sarfaraz Khan into the scene. The Mumbai batter has been one of the best batters in the Indian domestic circuit and has been piling up a huge amount of runs. It was expected that he would make the cut into the Indian team earlier but due to the packed squad, he wasn’t selected. With Iyer not being there, he will also be the prime candidate to replace him in the team. The right-hander has scored 13 FC tons and has an average of 81.51.
