2 players who could be dropped if Australia selects Marnus Labuschagne for 2023 ODI World Cup

Teams have an opportunity to name replacements until September 28th. However, they need to get approval from ICC to do the same. Marnus Labuschagne is in exceptional form and it is hard to ignore this touch. Hence, the Aussies might make a change to their squad before the mega-event. Here, we take a look at two players who could be dropped if Australia selects Marnus Labuschagne for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

1) Josh Inglis

Josh Inglis is purely in the squad as a backup for Alex Carey and also a reserve option for the opening spot. Hence, it might not be a big change if he has to be removed from the squad. Yes, Aussies would run a risk but with a part-time keeper like Travis Head available, Australia can afford to drop Inglis.

On the other hand, Marnus would add a terrific option to the top order. Of course, he can also play at No.4. Since he is in form, he might even start in the playing XI.

2) Marcus Stoinus

Marcus Stoinis is also one of the players who could be dropped if Australia selects Marnus Labuschagne for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Yes, it is a surprising one but if Inglis cannot be dropped, Australia then has to make a choice between Cameron Green and Marcus Stoinis.

To provide context, Stoinis has not scored a fifty in ODIs since 2019! This is a big gap for a player of his calibre. Yes, he does add some value with the ball but Green would be a better bet at this. Also, Stoinis plays at No.5 or No.6 in the team. With the likes of Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell, Australia might not miss the services of Stoinis much. Therefore, if Australia seriously consider having Marnus in the squad, they could discuss the likes of Stoinis.
