BCCI recently announced the squad for the first Test against Bangladesh. After this series, there is a tournament against New Zealand before India will travel for the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It will be interesting to see the kind of squad that will be selected for the BGT. We could see a lot of surprises, as well. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two players selected for the Bangladesh series but might miss the BGT 2024/25.
1) Sarfaraz Khan
Sarfaraz Khan only made his India debut in the last series against England. He has now replaced Shreyas Iyer as the ideal middle-order candidate for Team India. However, the problem for him is that not many rate him as a good player of pace bowling.
Especially with his height and fitness, which can be improved, it will be a surprise if he can find success in Australia at this stage of his career. Gautam Gambhir could prefer a safe bet and therefore, he could select Shreyas Iyer again for this spot. Therefore, unless he is extremely brilliant against Bangladesh and Kiwis, it is hard for Sarfaraz to be on the flight to Australia.
2) Yash Dayal
Yash Dayal is one of the players selected for the Bangladesh series but might miss the BGT 2024/25. It was a surprise to see Yash Dayal selected ahead of the likes of Arshdeep Singh for the Bangladesh series. However, he is an able candidate and deserves the opportunity.
That said, India can maximum select only five pacers in the squad. Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and a fit Mohammed Shami are sure to be there. Akash Deep is very close to being the fourth pacer. Considering his decent skills with the bat, Harshit Rana could get a chance. Also, you could never rule out a return for Prasidh Krishna or Shardul Thakur. Hence, Yash has a lot of competition.
