Kane Williamson unfortunately fractured his thumb in the previous World Cup game. This game was also his return to the XI. As per reports, he will sit out of the playing XI and could be ready for the latter end of the tournament. However, the Kiwis will need to plan for the worst. Here, we take a look at two players New Zealand must bring as replacement for Kane Williamson if he gets ruled out of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
1) Finn Allen
Finn Allen missed out on the Kiwi squad for the World Cup. With Rachin Ravindra owning the No.3 spot in the absence of Kane, New Zealand can bring in an extra opener.
Will Young has done a good job and he will replace Kane for the next game. However, if Young does not have a good run in the next games, New Zealand could have an issue. Hence, a player like Finn Allen would be a good option to have. He has played a lot at the top of the order with Conway and would not have taken a lot of time to settle.
2) Henry Nicholls
Henry Nicholls is one of the players New Zealand must bring as a replacement for Kane Williamson if he gets ruled out of the 2023 ODI World Cup. He is also one of the major names that missed the flight to India. If Kane gets ruled out, Nicholls would be a more realistic replacement.
Nicholls has experience in his bag, which is important for such tournaments. While Rachin is doing well, it is not sure how he turns up when the opposition analysts start finding out his weaknesses. Hence, it makes sense to have Nicholls in the squad. He would provide balance and security to the batting line-up in the absence of a big player like Kane Williamson.
