2 players in ICC’s Top 10 T20I rankings who are not selected for the 2024 T20 World Cup

Current form is always a key factor when a team is selected for an ICC event. However, at times, various factors play a role in deciding the selections of each player to the final squad. In this regard, despite being in the Top 10 rankings, some players missed the selection bus. On that note, here, we take a look at two players in ICC’s Top 10 T20I rankings who are not selected for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

1) Rilee Rossouw

Rilee Rossow is currently ranked at No.10 in the ICC’s Top 10 T20I rankings. Yet, he did not find a place in the 2024 T20 World Cup squad for South Africa. It is a big blow for the cricketer because even in IPL 2024, he was in decent touch.

However, from the selectors’ perspective, it would have been hard to fit in Rossouw. With a settled middle-order comprising Aiden Markra, David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen and Tristan Stubbs, it was hard to fit in the left-hander. Also, South Africa would need more backups in the top order and in the pace department. Hence, their likely combination did not have a place for a player like Rossouw.

2) Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi is one of the players in ICC’s Top 10 T20I rankings who are not selected for the 2024 T20 World Cup. For Bishnoi, it was all about his show in IPL 2024 that put him out of contention. Not long ago, he was the No.1 ranked bowler in the T20I format. However, he had a bad run in IPL 2024 and lost out on his place.

Yuzvendra Chahal replaced Bishnoi in the squad. Had Bishnoi been a bit decent, he would have surely been on the flight to the World Cup. Nevertheless, he is young and still has a lot of opportunities to do well for the country in the future.
