2 Indians who might surprisingly not play in the first Test against South Africa

India will take on South Africa in an important Test series from tomorrow. India is yet to win a Test series in South Africa. Hence, the men in blue will be keen to create history in the Rainbow Nation. While the bowling looks sorted, in the batting department, there are newcomers to South Africa. The management will look to create a balance such that India will be in a better position throughout the game. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two Indians who might surprisingly not play in the first Test against South Africa.

1) Shreyas Iyer

While KL Rahul has been announced as the wicket-keeper, it would be a big risk for him to take the spot behind the wickets. He has not kept a lot in first-class cricket before. Moreover, the injury-prone cricketer that he is, standing behind the stumps for a long time could have an impact on his fitness.

If India has to have a genuine wicket-keeper, KS Bharat would be the only option. A good performer on the last tour of South Africa, it would be hard to drop KL Rahul. He might slot in at No.5. Hence, we could see Shreyas Iyer missing from the playing XI.

2) R Ashwin

R Ashwin is one of the Indians who might surprisingly not play in the first Test against South Africa. Ashwin and Shardul Thakur have always competed for one position in overseas Tests. This time, too, we could see Shardul pip Ashwin to take the spot at No.8.

With Mohammed Shami missing, India may not be able to handle the pressure with only three pacers. Ravindra Jadeja is certain as the all-rounder. Hence, Ashwin might have to miss out. Prasidh Krishna could be the player who might replace Shami in the playing XI.
