England is one of the teams that will be followed extensively at the 2023 ODI World Cup. They were in top form and won the event back in 2019. They recently won the 2022 T20 World Cup and is arguably the best white-ball setup right now. Nevertheless, like every other squad, they, too, would have some tough decisions to make while selecting the squad. Here, we take a look at the list of two England players who might surprisingly feature in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
1) Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes is one of the England players who might surprisingly feature in the 2023 ODI World Cup. As per reports, Jos Buttler and the England Team management are trying to convince Stokes to withdraw his retirement.
Earlier this summer, Stokes convinced Moeen Ali to withdraw his retirement to play in the Ashes. Stokes is a big-game player and as seen in the 2022 T20 WC, his experience will be useful. England’s middle-order might need some valuable resources and Stokes would be the best fit here. Hence, he is one of the surprising candidates to come into the squad.
2) Will Jacks
Currently, Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali are set to form the spin attack for England. Liam Livingston and Joe Root will probably support them as part-time spinners. Someone like Rehan Ahmed can be picked as Rashid’s backup. However, one interesting candidate whom England can also select is Will Jacks.
The youngster is doing well in recent months and would be a good all-rounder for the squad. He can bat across the batting order and can provide 10 overs on his day. Yes, he lacks experience but since he will be a backup, he can be a solid choice. It is such players who can cause a difference on the big stage. England might make a surprise selection and Jacks could be one of them.
