2 domestic veterans aged above 37 who could be captaincy candidates for IPL 2025

After IPL 2022 Mega Auctions, RCB appointed 37-year-old Faf du Plessis as the captain of the side. It was a bold move considering his age and the fact that he is an overseas player. However, the decision actually paid dividends to the outfit. All of it depends on the fitness and the quality of the player. In this regard, a few teams might consider a skipper who are close to 40. If they can be at the helm for at least two years, it would have served the franchise well. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two domestic veterans aged above 37 who could be captaincy candidates for IPL 2025.

1) Rohit Sharma

It will be interesting to see if Mumbai Indians retain Rohit Sharma, especially after he led India to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup. If the retentions allowed are less, MI has no option but to release their most successful skipper.

However, this would give a chance for other teams to hire a legendary captain like Rohit. As a player, he can easily play at least two to three years more. This aspect must be enough for teams to place their trust on him as a captain.

2) R Ashwin

R Ashwin is one of the domestic veterans aged above 37 who could be captaincy candidates for IPL 2025. Considering the lack of domestic options, it would not be a surprise if some team goes for R Ashwin as a captaincy choice. In fact, the veteran all-rounder is doing the role in Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024.

In Ashwin, there is a shrewd spinner and a handy batter. Tactically, he may not be a bad idea as he usually brings some fresh perspectives to the table. He will also be a candidate to whom youngsters could look up to. Hence, he is on this list.
