Rahul Dravid‘s performance as the Head Coach of the Test Team has not been great. The team has been consistently losing games abroad. To arrest this, BCCI could think of replacing Dravid as the Head Coach of the Test side. Yes, there is a possibility that the board could adopt a split-coaching strategy, something that the other boards such as ECB have adopted with success. On that note, here, we take a look at two current IPL coaches whom BCCI must target as the next Head Coach of the Indian Test Team.
1) Ricky Ponting
Arguably the best skipper that the game has seen, Ricky Ponting stands at the top when it comes to tactics and analysing the situation of the game and the players. He has been brilliant for Delhi Capitals although the last few years have not been very great.
It would be a massive coup if somehow BCCI could convince Ricky to join Team India. It could have the same impact as Brendon McCullum revolutionizing English Test cricket. That said, there would be a lot of competition from the other boards. Ricky himself might not be satisfied with just one format. Hence, there could be a lot of complications. Nevertheless, when it comes to the best fit for the role, he is a solid option for BCCI.
2) Chandrakant Pandit
Chandrakant Pandit is one of the current IPL coaches whom BCCI must target as the next Head Coach of the Indian Test Team. The current coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, Chandrakant Pandit is also known as the Alex Ferguson of the Indian Domestic Cricket. He is a serial trophy winner and recently helped Madhya Pradesh lift the title.
He knows how to bring the best out of players. Chandrakant Pandit is also sufficiently experienced to take up such a challenging role. Hence, he is on this list.
