2 Cricketers Who Named Their Daughter After A Place Where They Found Success In The Game

It is common to witness sports personalities honour a place or venue where they happened to perform brilliantly. It is the same in cricket as well. A few cricketers have ensured that the location where they achieved success will form an important part of their lives. In line with this, a few players have named their kids after a place where they did well. In this article, we take a look at two cricketers who named their daughter after a place where they found success in the game.

1) Brian Lara – Sydney Lara

Although Brian Lara made his Test debut in 1990, for the next two years, he could accumulate only three more tests. However, after the special innings at Sydney back in 1993, there was no looking back for the legend. The southpaw made 277 runs in an innings and helped West Indies draw the game. Before the match, West Indies had already lost the game and for their confidence, it was important that they did not lose the Sydney Test. The relative newcomer had played a great role in the win.

Lara’s knock of 277 is one of the iconic efforts by a batter in the history of the game. He took on a tough bowling line-up and made batting look easy. On the personal front, as well, this knock helped the viewers take note of him. Hence, the former West Indian skipper named his first daughter after the city of Sydney.

2) Carlos Brathwaite – Eden Rose Brathwaite

In the final of the 2016 T20 World Cup, West Indies had lost hopes of winning the game after the encounter had reached its last over. The Caribbean nation needed 19 deliveries of six balls and the main batters were back in the hut. It is then that all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite arrived into the game.

Of Ben Stokes‘ bowling, he hit four back-to-back sixes to help West Indies seal the game. That knock elevated Carlos’ position in the West Indian Team. He later got to captain the squad, as well. Apart from this, that display helped the player to gain hefty contracts across various T20 leagues. The game happened at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and the player recently named his daughter after the iconic venue. Hence, he is one of the cricketers who named their daughter after a place where they found success in the game.
