After losing their last match of the 2021 Indian Premier League season against the Delhi Capitals, the Mumbai Indians will be in action at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, playing against the Rajasthan Royals on October 5. This is a virtual knockout match for both teams in IPL 2021. The reason behind it is both RR and MI have scored ten points in this season so far.
At the moment, it seems like the team with 14 points will probably take the fourth spot in the points table. Hence, with only two matches remaining for both MI and RR, it will be impossible for them to reach the 14-point mark if they lose tomorrow. Keeping that in mind, two-time defending champions Mumbai Indians will aim to give their 100% in the middle. They might alter their playing XI as well. Here are the two changes MI should make against RR.
1. Mumbai Indians should bring in Ishan Kishan
Although wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan has not been at his best in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League season, no one can deny the fact that he is a game-changer. It is only a matter of few deliveries for Kishan to turn them upside-down. He is a hard-hitting batter.
Hence, MI should consider bringing him in for Saurabh Tiwary. Yes, Tiwary has looked good, but Kishan can score runs quicker than him once he finds his touch. If needed, Kishan can also keep the wickets for the team. Also, it will help him prepare in the best way for the T20 World Cup 2021.
2. Rahul Chahar in, Jayant Yadav out
One of the primary reasons why the Mumbai Indians were able to win matches in Chennai during the first phase of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League was Rahul Chahar’s bowling performance. The right-arm leg-spinner scalped heaps of wickets and put the opposition under pressure.
In the last match, MI left Chahar out of the playing XI for Jayant Yadav. Since Yadav took only one wicket against DC, it should not be a surprise if he is back on the bench, with Chahar coming back into the team.
