Kolkata Knight Riders had a good purse and their sole agenda was to build the pace attack. Hence, they spent the majority of their funds in that direction. Of course, KKR also needed an Indian wicket-keeper and hence, made the signing of KS Bharat. Some of the targets of KKR in IPL 2024 Auctions were spot on. However, they were not able to pull off these signings. Here, we take a look at the list of two brilliant pacers KKR targeted but could not sign in IPL 2024 Auctions.
1) Nuwan Thushara
Nuwan Thushara was signed by Mumbai Indians but RCB and KKR were also interested in his services. A specialist for the death overs, Nuwan is known for his slinging action and the pinpoint yorkers. Since KKR does not have a go-to option for the death, they would have liked Nuwan in the team.
While Mitchell Starc is experienced, he tends to leak runs in the end. Chetan Sakariya and Harshit Rana are also a bit inexperienced. Andre Russel is not reliable. Hence, it will be interesting to see how KKR will work out the endovers. Possibly, they could use spin, especially at the Eden Gardens.
2) Kartik Tyagi
Kartik Tyagi is one of the brilliant pacers KKR targeted but could not sign in IPL 2024 Auctions. The talented Indian pacer went for just INR 60 Lakhs to Gujarat Titans. It was a steal and KKR was one of the teams who bid for him. However, they did not go further. It was a surprise because he would have been the ideal signing for the team.
KKR does not have a good all-phase pacer in the side apart from Mitchell Starc. Even Starc could leak runs at times. Harshit Rana has the potential but he has just started his career. Hence, an option like Kartik Tyagi would have been helpful to the team.
