The previous Ashes happened in Australia in 2021-22. It was a proper victory by the hosts back then. However, the challenge will be tougher this time around. England is in good form and they will be playing at their home. Their approach is also something that is helping them win matches. Some of the Aussies who featured in the last Ashes might not play in the upcoming tournament. Here, we take a look at two Australian players who played in the last Ashes series but might miss Ashes 2023.
1) Jhye Richardson
The right-arm pacer actually made a comeback in the previous Ashes. He replaced Josh Hazlewood and had a decent outing. However, he is currently injured and also missed IPL 2023 for the same reason.
Australia has already announced the squad for the first two Ashes Tests. Jhye did not feature on this list. Also, Australia picked only four front-line pacers. It appears that the management has a plan in mind and Jhye may not be in this plan currently.
2) Michael Neser
Michael Neser is one of the Australian players who played in the last Ashes series but might miss Ashes 2023. Neser was also one of the few pacers who either made their debut or made a comeback in the last Ashes. However, it looks like he will miss the upcoming series. At least, he is not in the squad for the first two Tests, which features Scott Boland as the backup pacer.
Neser is in cracking form. He recenly collected 40 wickets in the Shield. With the injury issues of the front-line pacers, Australia could have considered an extra pacer in the squad. However, interestingly, they have not done that. That said, Neser is likely to be the first option for Australia if there is any injury issue because Lance Morris is also having an injury problem right now.
