As per reports, Hardik Pandya is all set to be traded to Mumbai Indians by Gujarat Titans. It is the third instance of an active captain being traded to a different team. It is a rare occurence as the team that will be leaving the player will have a lot of work after it. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two active captains who were traded between teams in IPL history.
1) R Ashwin – Punjab Kings to Delhi Capitals (IPL 2020)
After Punjab Kings signed R Ashwin in the IPL 2018 Auction, they made him the skipper. It was a natural choice considering his experience and the different ideas that he could offer. He did have a good run but the consistency was missing.
Later, before IPL 2020, Delhi signed the player in a trade move. DC needed an experienced spinner and Ashwin was the right signing for them. For PBKS, as well, it was a decent move as this gave them an opportunity to appoint KL Rahul as the new skipper.
2) Ajinkya Rahane – Rajasthan Royals to Delhi Capitals (IPL 2020)
Ajinkya Rahane is one of the active captains who were traded between teams in IPL history. It was again before IPL 2020 that this also took place. This time around, it was the skipper at RR who moved to Delhi. It was a surprising move because DC had a stacked top-order and Rahane was not getting an assured game time.
Nevertheless, with some injury issues later on, Rahane did get some chances. Later on, he was released. Currently, Rahane is playing in Chennai Super Kings. For RR, back then, there was an opportunity to give a different dimension to the top-order. Steve Smith and Sanju Samson later became the captains of RR, with Sanju still holding the role at the unit.
